About Us:

We are Hawkwell driving school based in Hockley (Hawkwell), in Essex, and we are owned by Alan and myself (Wendy Barker).  I am involved in the driving school administration, and Alan, my husband, is the qualified driving instructor DSA ADI.

Hawkwell Driving School has been established for over 10 years, and Alan has been a qualified driving instructor for over 25 years. We are a local driving school, and because of this we rely on local recommendations. We also pride ourselves on our customer service.

And because we believe that keeping a very high standard of tuition is the most important aspect of a good reputable driving school, we don't employ, or act as an agency for, any other instructors. This means that when you book with us, you are booking your driving lessons with Alan.

At all times you can be confident of our honesty, professionalism, and integrity, in the way that we operate. And as part of this service, for your protection, we have Driving Instructors Association fully comprehensive vehicle insurance for tuition purposes, Public Liability, and Professional Indemnity Insurance.

A personal message from Alan:
"My promise to you is that I will teach you to drive, and prepare you for your driving test, to the best of my ability at all times. I will always advise you of your progress honestly, and work with you in your best interest."

We offer free, home, work, or college, pick-up from: Hockley, Rayleigh, Rochford, Southend, Westcliff, Leigh, Shoeburyness, Hadleigh, Benfleet, Thundersley, Hullbridge, Wickford, South Woodham Ferrers, and all surrounding areas.

For our pupil's driving tests, since the closure of Southend test centre in December 2008, Alan prefers to use, like many other local instructors, Clacton-on-Sea.  Amusingly, at some times of the day there are more Southend area instructors at Clacton test centre, than Clacton instructors.

However, if you prefer to use another test centre, Alan also has detailed knowledge of Brentwood, Chelmsford, Tilbury, and Basildon test areas.

Alan also conducts advanced driver training to DSA and Roadcraft standards. If you are interested in improving your driving, or want to gain higher qualifications, or want to train to be a driving instructor - give us a call.
